Letters from College: The third Letter

Ephesians 3:14-21, “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

Take a moment to pray Paul’s prayer over yourself.

When I was a Freshman in college, I was selected attend a preaching conference to enhance my preaching skills. The passage that I was given for the conference was Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians (as seen above). Preaching through Paul’s prayer helped me find my voice. When I went off to college, I knew that I was going to be a preacher. However, I didn’t know how to “find my voice.” I didn't know how to have a unique voice instead of “sounding” like someone else. I knew that I needed a voice of my own because I was given one from God. I learned that finding my voice meant listening to the Holy Spirit and letting the Holy Spirit speak through me.

Finding my voice meant listening to His Voice first.

His Voice through me was going to help people see that Christ loves them. We are able to get a glimpse of God’s love for us, and we do not have to settle for a different kind of love.

Finding your voice begins with listening to His Voice first. Listening to His Voice could mean reading Scripture, or spending time in silence and solitude. Christ wants you to listen to Him. He wants you to find your voice so that you can spread the Gospel.

Finding your voice is not for your own benefit. Finding your voice is for the purpose of testifying to what God has spoken to you.
