letters from college
I will be doing a new blog series called, “Letters from College.” Throughout my time in college, I experienced new people and learned valuable lessons. As a recent graduate, I am reflecting on my lessons that could help others. Welcome to Letters from College by Lillie Xing.
Dear College,
Honestly, the college years were not my favorite. I thought that I would only have fun experiences. I thought that it would be fun to have all of the freedom in the world to do whatever I wanted to. However, I proved myself wrong very quickly. I loved the college I attended. I loved going to class, meeting with my professors, doing homework with friends, and working at the school. However the personal side of my life came with many hardships and broken hearts.
The first thing I would tell a college student now is, “over caution what you are unwilling to tell your closest friends and family members.” I had plenty of secrets that I thought I had to keep, so I did. However, I learned that I can find safe spaces to share my true thoughts and feelings. Holding my thoughts and feelings in was not going to benefit me. If I felt the need to cover something up, then that was my sign to speak up.
Since we are the body of Christ, we can confide in others. We do not have to carry our heaviness by ourselves. God has blessed us with people in our communities to help us seek His face. Your inner community wants to her from you. They want to hear what you have been holding, so do not be afraid to share. Only the enemy will keep us in the same place and make us feel like we have to isolate. God will always point us forward by allowing us to share with Him what is really going on in our lives.
If you are seeking help on how to discern what to share, then visit “Healing Through Belonging” to begin your journey of sharing with others.
My question for you today is… What do you feel like you are holding in? Is God prompting you to share your heart with someone this week?
You are BELOVED,
Lillie Xing
