Broken to Blessed

“In your worst moment, you didn’t lose your purpose”

Have you ever felt like getting out of bed will lead to your next burden? As if the moment you put your feet on the floor, you are stepping into your next heartbreak. Walking through seasons of feeling out of control, hopelessness, overwhelmed or defeat, can make it hard to feel any type of relief. Masking these feelings can look like staying busy, avoidance, pleasing people, performing and more.

I find these seasons to be trying because I feel like I lose my purpose when I am feeling broken. However, I remember sitting with my counselor one day, and she helped me understand the grace of God. She said, “in your worst moment, you didn’t lose your purpose.” I didn’t really know what to say. I knew that I was the one who had to believe this statement for myself. I believe this statement is true for you as well. Friend, in your worst moment, you didn’t lose your purpose.

You were blessed before you ever felt a hint of brokenness. Paul reminds us of our spiritual blessings when he was writing to the Ephesians. The Ephesians had a lot of brokenness amongst them. However, Paul began his letter with, “To God’s holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph. 1:1-2). Paul knew that the Ephesians were partaking in sinful actions, but that did not hinder Paul’s view of them. In light of Jesus, the believers were declared holy. The Believers were invited into God’s grace and peace. Even when they were living in their worst moments, they were still able to receive God’s grace and peace.

Our purpose on earth is to receive God’s grace, peace and love because Jesus has declared us as Holy. We are able to stand confidently before God because of Jesus paying the price for our sins. Jesus died for our sins so that we could live with Jesus on earth and in Heaven. Since Jesus died for our sins, the grace of God has covered our wrongdoings. Our worst moments can stem from the consequences of our sins or someone’s sin that hurt us. However, our worst moments have no worth compared to Jesus’ grace that he has lavished on you. Your purpose did not begin because of your “good deeds.” Nor can you lose your purpose because of your sin. The Holy Spirit is with you, and He is reminding you that your security is found in Jesus. “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory” (Eph. 1:13-14).

Your purpose begins with knowing that your salvation has been secured in Jesus. You are justified before the Father because of Jesus. You do not have to fear that your mistakes will jeopardize your justification. Your purpose on earth will be revealed as you begin to preach the Gospel to yourself. As you believe what the Gospel says about you, Christ will give you His heart for His people. Through Christ’s heart, your purpose will become known to you.

You may feel broken so you can begin to realize what God has blessed you with. Ephesians 1 details our blessings as a believer. We can remind ourselves of the blessings that we have received. Your life began with a blessing. You were blessed before you ever felt broken. Therefore, in your worst moment, you didn’t lose your purpose.
