abandoned to adopted

Hello my name is Yang Xing Shu and to the world, I am forgotten. I admit that I am naive to my original identification because I possess only a small share of my biological history. When I was three months old, my birth mom gave me away to become someone else’s daughter. If you put your child in an orphanage in the United States, then logistically it is an easy process. In the United States most parents can sign some papers, and they can know what orphanage their child is going to. However China has different laws, making the adoption journey camouflaged. My biological mom had to set her newborn daughter in the crowded streets of China, in hopes someone would give her a home. My biological mom gave me up, for me to be loved by someone else. To the world I had no money. To the world I had no family title. To the world my name, Yang Xing Shu, became a reflection of where the government placed me. I hope that you have not been abandoned by your birth parents, but maybe you have lost your identity.

Losing your identity could look like a number of things. Maybe you feel like you have to say, “yes” to every request driven by other people’s ambitions. Maybe you think that you will never overcome your anxious thoughts. Maybe you feel unworthy because of a past mistake that has brought on continued consequences. A lost identity can make us disconnected from the body that we are occupying. However, your identity has never been lost because your identity was not your responsibility to establish. Rather, your identity is one that has been established by the Identity Giver. Your identity is not lost because the Identity Giver has found you (Matthew 18:22).

Psalm 139:1-18 points us to the Identity Giver. He sees us. He Knows us. He loves us. The identity that He has established for us was gifted to us. The gift of our identity has been secured by Jesus. We cannot lose our identity because of Jesus’ death and resurrection (Matthew 27-28). Through Jesus, believers have been NAMED worthy, holy, beloved, forgiven, pure and seen. While we may not feel like we know our identity well, we can rely on the Identity Giver to remind us of His Name.

Since we have been identified by the Identity Giver, we can step into our calling. The Great Commission details a believer’s calling, “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20). Our story begins when we receive our new identity and our new calling from Jesus. The Holy Spirit moves through the steps that will create your story.

My steps began with wanting to find my identity as a human. I was craving to be found. I was found by a loving family an ocean away who chose me. This family gave me an identity, but they also introduced me to the identity giver. Since then, I have dedicated my life to full-time ministry because I want to introduce our broken world to the loving Savior. Jesus has taken me from abandoned to adopted. From broken to blessed. From hurt to healed, and your story can be redeemed too. You can be found. We no longer have to live apart from our true identity. We no longer have to be confused about who we are. We are God’s children, and God’s children are NAMED for His Kingdom’s glory.

Hello my name is Lillie Xing, and I am beloved by Jesus Christ.
