reconciliaton roadmap
The Reconciliation Roadmap is a tool from my upcoming devotional, Healing through Belonging. Reconciliation is a characteristic that we can embody through the Holy Spirit. Believers are called to be “Ministers of Reconciliation” (2 Corin. 5:18-19). We are able to reconcile relationships because we have been reconciled back to God. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, so we no longer separated from Him. Jesus was the ultimate minister of reconciliation. Through the Holy Spirit, we are able to forgive others, and we are able to renew our relationships with people. We will not be able to reconcile every relationship. However, we can become ministers of reconciliation. Reconciliation begins with us and our hearts and minds. The exercise below will help you identify how you can become someone who reconciles relationships. We must first recognize our personal set backs in relation to relationships.
What are your roadblocks to reconciliation? Write down the words in bold in your journal. Write down how these actions have affected your relationships with others. Identify if you were the one carrying out these actions or if others were exhibiting them.
Anxiety
Selfishness
Happiness
Grief
Distraction
Passion
Insecurity
Forgiveness
Bitterness
Control
After you have completed your thoughts, take a moment to pray about these characteristics. Think about how you can receive God’s grace today, and how you can reveal grace to others. While we understand that every relationship will be flawed, how can you become a person of reconciliation? We can become a person of reconciliation by addressing how we can be flawed in relationships. We can be on a path that leads us to feel secure in Christ. We can become a person that knows that God has invited everyone into His family. We cannot control what it looks like for everyone to be in God’s family, but we can reveal to others the security that comes with being in His Family.
The next time you encounter a relationship that is safe to reconcile… What will be your steps to reconcile the relationship? We have been called into a deeper healing, and our relationships can receive a deeper healing too.
