canceled to called

“Canceled to Called” has been inspired by Day 2 of “Healing through Belonging”.

“But God…”

Open your Bible to Ephesians 2:1-10 to see a powerful “before and after” picture.

Verses 1–3 reminds us of who we were before Jesus: dead in sin, led by desires from other spirits, aligned with a world that rejects love. Paul is writing to Gentiles—outsiders, former idol-worshipers, those who walked far from God. The Gentiles were not in the original bloodline of Jesus, but Jesus is inviting the Gentiles into God’s story. Paul is a minister to the Gentiles, so Paul is reminding the Gentiles of their new reality in light of Christ. Paul is not shaming the Gentiles for what they have previously believed about themselves. He’s naming the truth so they can understand the depth of grace.

Verses 4–7 contains the most life-altering phrase in Scripture: ” But God, rich in mercy,” saw us in our worst moment and didn’t walk away. He made us alive. We didn’t earn it. We couldn’t fix ourselves. But God moved toward us with love. He raised us up, seated us with Christ, and showcased His kindness. Even now, your healing journey is a demonstration of His grace.

Grace means to receive what you do not deserve. Mercy is not getting what you deserve (We deserved to die for our sins, but Christ died for us). God showed us both Grace and Mercy.

Verses 8–10 teach us that salvation is a gift—and so is purpose. You are God’s workmanship. That Greek word is poiēma, like a poem or masterpiece. Even in your lowest moment, you were still made for impact, love, and sacred work.

Even when you feel like your calling has been canceled, remember the words, “But God.” We do not have to earn our calling. We do not have to be afraid of being “canceled” by God because He has called us. He is calling us everyday to live with Him.
